Information retrieval is one of
the big challenges today. The two questions that I face over and
over again are:
1. Where is that information or site that has such-and-such
on it, and
2. Where can I find out something-or-other.
Tip:
Once you have explored Personal Coach, you will know where a lot of
certain kinds of information are located. I recommend doing the same
with Virtual Reference Desk. Together these two WEB sites
will place a lot of things at your finger tips, so that you can stay on
top of answers to Question #1
To find something for the
first time, I favor the Meta-search engines because the chances of
appropriate hits are increased and you save time.
I like Askjeeves because it doesn't require you to learn Boolean
operators, only to ask a question or put up key words.
Of course, if you can't find it on Askjeeves, then you will need to
explore some of the other meta-search engines. This strategy will
help you with answers to Question #2.
