This is my 1986 M1044 up-armored HMMWV. This vehicle was released from the U.S. Government in 1990, before there were any demil regulations on HMMWVs. It was released as a rolling chassis, but was missing the drivetrain. It went through several owners before I acquired it from my friend Gene Pantano. I went with him when he originally bought it from Sam's Surplus in Stanton, TX.
At Sam's Surplus
Loading up at Sam's Surplus. Tow vehicle is Gene's Dodge Cummins.
Gene acquired many of the missing parts before he sold it to me, Gene had simply lost interest in this particular vehicle. I chose to completely strip the vehicle down to the bare bones and do it right. The paint was peeling badly so I had the body soda blasted to remove the old paint as well as etch the body so the new paint would adhere this time. I sprayed the body with a zinc chromate primer. The body was then sprayed with actual CARC 383 green. Like I said, I wanted this one done to the T!
Hartop removed, ready to blast. Note the new radial tires.
I really haven't had the time or money to finish this project yet. It's on the back burner for now until I get a few other projects done. I will update this page as time goes on and the project nears completion.
