I was born in Worcester, raised in a small town called Rutland, in the state of Massachusetts. I guess your wondering how I got into Country Music.
It all started when I was knee high to a grasshopper (a saying my Dad used a lot). Back then the local radio stations would turn down the power to their transmitters about 9pm every night. I remember my Mom tuning in the radio station that was known up and down the east coast from Maine to Florida and as far West as Missouri. To all Country Music lovers (they called it Hillbilly Music back then) WWVA located in Wheeling West Virginia was the radio station we listened to. In Massachusetts it was the ONLY Country Music station we could get! All through the night the radio played songs like Wedding Bells, Lovesick Blues or I Saw The Light by Hank Williams, Walking The Floor Over You and Waltz Across Texas by Ernest Tubb, or Johnny Bond, George Morgan, Wanda Jackson, Webb Pierce, Tex Ritter, who could forget Kitty Wells or Red Foley.
The list could go on and on. Many nights I would wake up and listen to the music, as it would fade in and out when the radio waves got strong then weaken.
There was a DJ back then called “Lee Moore” he called himself “The Coffee Drinking Nighthawk” as I remember he was on 1am to about 5am on Saturday and Sunday morning. He would also sing from time to time. One song I remember him doing was “The Cat Came Back” I’m not sure if that is the right title but it had about 10 or 12 verses on how a man tried to get rid of a cat and couldn't. One verse went something like…
We put the cat in a box, set the box in the road, a truck made little pieces of the box in the road, but the cat came back we thought he was a goner but the cat came back cause he couldn’t stay away….
I have many fond memories when listening to the music I love.
Now through this Web Page I hope to give you a song that you will love. Who knows maybe a few years from now you’ll have fond memory of a song I’ve done.
Please listen to my “Music Samples” I know you will enjoy them. Let me know either way, I will always answer your e-mail. |
