MY BOY SCOUT PAGE
Boy Scouts has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. It has made me into the person that I am, therefore I'm creating this page to inform those of you who may just stumble across this page about scouts and my experiences. I suppose that a lot of the people who see (and probably even most of the people) this are people are in, and even know me through scouting. For those people I am going to include links to some other people's websites and links to some great references for skits, songs, jokes, games, and lots of other good stuff.
SCOUTING LINKS
These are a few links to some scouting websites that I have collected.
Here's a link to a page made by a friend (Roscoe) that has been devoted to scouts. His page has links to a lot of good sites.
This is a link to a site put up by another scout in Ashland. He's in my Spanish class, and he has a really cool site so check it out.
This is the official site of my council. There's a lot of information here.
Of course what list of Boy Scout links wold be complete without the official Boy Scout website.
SOME GREAT SCOUTING RESOURCES
This is one of the best resources for skits and songs I have found.
This site has a great selection of skits.
This site has the most up to date requirements for all of the scout ranks and all of the merit badges.
This is another great site for all of you scouters out there. It even has scripts for some eagle ceremonies.
TINNERMAN LOG BOOK
In August of 1997 a group of 11 scouts from my troop went on a week long canoe trip in Canada. The canoe base in called Tinnerman. While on the trip each night we added a record of how far we had traveled, and any interesting things that had happened during the day to our log book. This is what you are about to read.
Saturday August 2, 1997
550 miles traveled by car and bus
5:00 PM we met at Trinity Lutheran Church, then drove to Brecksville to board a charter bus. 7:00 PM bus leaves to pick up other scout crews around the Clevland area. Started to watch the movie Full Metal Jacket but was stopped (thanks to Mr. H). 11:00 PM stopped in Angola, NY at a McDonalds. 2:00 AM stopped in Barrie, Ontario Canada at McDonalds.

Sunday August 3, 1997
6.5 miles traveled by motor boat
8 miles traveled by canoe
6:00 AM arrived at Hungry Bear restaurant for breakfast. Rode bus to Hartley Bay marina. Unloaded all gear from bus and took it on a motor boat to BSA Tinnerman Canoe Base on the French River in Ontario, Canada. At base camp we met Jason our guide for the week. We were assigned a cabin where we left our gear that we were not taking on the canoe trek. Everyone took a swim test in the lake. We were issued crew gear of food, cooking utensils, and tents. We loaded canoes and on headed our way up the river by 10:00 AM. Set up camp at Recollet Falls for the night. (ate rehydrated cardboard hamburgers for dinner yummy!)

Monday August 4, 1997
13 miles traveled by canoe
Broke camp and headed up the main channel of the French River again. Our plans to go down the Little Pipe Beard to the Pickerel were hindered by low water. It turned out to be our first major portage. After carrying gear and canoes about 150 yards down the river bed we made it to the Pickerel. The rest of the day was one long paddle. We arrived at McDougal Island just in time to set up camp and eat dinner before dark. By the way when it gets dark you want to be in your tent because of the mosquitoes. They aren't that big but they come out by the thousands. You can hear them humming outside from inside your tent.

Tuesday August 5, 1997
6miles traveled by canoe
Left McDougal Island going down the Pickerel River. At this point is the occurrence of our first and only unplanned canoe capsizing (way to go Matt and Mike S). We made our longest portage of about 3/4 mile. Arrived at Deer Bay at 2:00 pm and set up camp. Spent the rest of the afternoon working on canoeing and fishing merit badges.

Wednesday August 6, 1997
8 miles traveled by canoe
Left Deer Bay and continued down the Pickerel. Entered Georgian Bay. Found Fox Island on the edge of the bay and set up camp for the night. After dinner we took baths (unlike our guide, it wasn't my first or last bath of the week) and had a cannon ball contest. The water was much colder in the bay.

Thursday August 6, 1997
10 miles traveled by canoe
Left Fox Island, went along the edge of the bay and up Root Beer Creek (named that because of the color of the water) Set up camp at the head of Root Beer near Western Channel of the French River. Wild blueberries were common in all of the areas, but exceptionally large and plentiful at this site.

Friday August 8, 1997
8 miles traveled by canoe
Headed up the Western Channel of the French River through the chutes. These chutes in some places were 6 feet wide, carved out of soid rock by the glaciers. Then up to the bend and set up camp. Jason our guide left to go back to base camp. We went swimming and made a water slide out of our dining fly which was temporarly lost under water, but later recovered.

Saturday August 9, 1997
8 miles traveled by canoe
Headed up the Main Channel of the French River. Stopped for lunch and swimming on the way back to base camp. Arrived back at Tinnerman Base Camp at 2:00 pm. Turned in our crew equipment and found out what recleaning all of your cookware is all about. Moved into our cabins and took much appreciated showers. Camp staff cooked spaghetti dinner for us.

Sunday August 10, 1997
6.5 miles traveled by boat
550 miles traveled by bus and car
Up early and head home. Breakfasst and then on the motor boats back to Hartley Bay where we caught the charter bus back to Brecksville, OH. In the cars and back to Ashland late that night.

TOTAL TINNERMAN TREK
1100 miles traveled by bus and car
13 miles traveled by motor boat
61 miles traveled by canoe
1174 miles total trek

The troop 501 Tinnerman 1997 crew earned the 50 Miler Award. The requriements include traveling 50 miles by canoe or on foot and doing a conservation project.
